Flap surgery uses tissues from adjacent areas or nearby areas. Examples include Nasolabial flap, submental flap, PMMC etc
Free flap surgery or microvascular surgery uses tissues from other parts of the body to tailor the needs of reconstruction at the defect site with minimal donor site morbidity.
Examples include Free fibula osteo cutaneous flap, ALT flap, Radial forearm flap, chimeric flaps etc

Abdominal wall and perineum reconstruction-
Cancers of the abdominal wall and perineum needing surgery will result in huge defects at these sites which needs immediate reconstruction since the abdominal organs needs adequate anatomical and functional coverage.

Examples include ALT Flap, VRAM Flap, LD FLAP
Perineal defects may involve anal sphincter and may cause anal incontinence. In such patients sphincter reconstruction surgeries are performed. Examples include Gracilis flap and Gluteus maximus flap
